According to the Seattle Times, “Despite his breezy jocularity, Mertel, 68, who was appointed and then elected to the bench in 1992, has a reputation as a serious and thoughtful jurist.”

Prosecution Team
James Konat: Creighton University School of Law (NE).
Roger Davidheiser: New York University Law School.
Both are King County Deputy Prosecutors, and are considered one of the most successful prosecutorial teams in the country.

Rafay's Defense Team
Veronica Freitas:  Lewis and Clark Law School graduate, with Masters degree in Tax Law from UW. 
Marc Stenchever: Seattle University School of Law graduate.
